What is a safe zone?
In TikTok, Reels and Stories the app draws its own elements over your video: the account name, the caption, the call to action button and the buttons for likes, comments and sharing. The safe zone is the part of the frame those elements do not cover. Your face, product, text, logo and price belong there.
How to use the template
- Choose where you will post. If the same video goes to TikTok, Reels, Stories and Shorts, choose All at once and you get one area that is safe everywhere.
- Add your video or photo to see what gets covered. It opens only in your browser.
- Switch to App view to see roughly how the post will look with the buttons and text on top.
- Download the PNG template, put it as the top layer in your editing app and hide it before you export. Keep it on your phone or computer for the next video.
How to film so nothing gets covered
- Film vertically in 9:16 and export at least 1080 × 1920 px. For Reels and Stories ads Meta recommends 1440 × 2560.
- Put yourself or the product in the middle of the safe area, not in the middle of the whole frame. The bottom is covered more than the top, so the safe middle sits a bit higher.
- Leave some room above the head, because the top bar covers the first part of the frame.
- Write the hook at the top of the safe area and the subtitles at its bottom, never under the buttons on the right.
- Keep the logo, price and offer away from corners and edges. On phones taller than 9:16 the app can zoom the video, and the edges are cut first.
Where the numbers come from
For Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels and Stories we use Meta Ads Guide: keep about 14% at the top, 35% at the bottom and 6% on each side free of text and logos. On a 1080 × 1920 frame that is about 269 px at the top, 672 px at the bottom and 65 px on each side.
For TikTok we use its official safe zone file for standard In Feed ads. It is drawn on a 720 × 1280 frame: 160 px at the top, 440 px at the bottom, 80 px on each side and a 120 px wide column for the buttons on the right, 720 px high from the bottom. On 1080 × 1920 that is 240 px at the top, 660 px at the bottom, 120 px on each side and the buttons from 840 px down. TikTok also says a longer caption makes the zone smaller. For YouTube Shorts we use the Google safe zone for vertical video ads: 288 px at the top, 672 px at the bottom, 48 px on the left and 192 px on the right.
The buttons on the right of Reels have no official number from Meta, so we draw them as an approximate zone with a dashed line. App view is an approximate drawing in our own design, not a copy of the real app. The hook and subtitle areas are our tips, not platform rules.
FAQ
Why choose All at once?
Because each app covers a different part of the frame. All at once combines the largest zone of each app, so a video made inside that area works on TikTok, Reels, Stories and Shorts without a second edit.
Do the zones change by phone?
Yes, a little. Phones have different screen shapes and apps change their layout with updates. Meta says that on screens taller than 9:16 it may zoom the video or fill the extra space with a black background. That is why it pays to keep important things a little inside the safe area, not on its edge.
Can I use the template for regular posts, not ads?
Yes, as a guide. The numbers come from the platforms' guidance for ads, and regular posts show similar elements: name, caption and buttons. Ads add a call to action button at the bottom, so the template leaves a bit more room than a regular post needs.
Do you keep my video?
No. Your browser opens the file from your device and nothing is uploaded or saved. When you close the tab, it is gone.
